this is an unknown slugish looking thing that I though was coralline algae, however closer inspection revealed it to move VERY slowly. any ideas?

That is a mollusk of the class and order Polyplacophora otherwise known as a Chiton. Most are harmless algae feeders though some are known to be carnivores. I wouldn't worry about it too much but keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't do any damage.

agree w/David...beautiful animals. Have had them for some time in Caribbean systems.
