I recently purchased a used 2x54w T5 fixture and wanted to mount it under neither a canopy I will be building for over a 4ft long tank. The problem is the light fixture extends slightly longer than the inside of the canopy will be because of the plastic shell.

I was wondering if I would be able to disassemble the unit and use it like a retrofit t5.

any pointers? have you ever done anything like this before?

I know in theory it seems like it can be done, but im just not entirely sure how to go about doing it. maybe ill just take a dremel and slowly slice away at the plastic shell.
