We usually add it till it reaches saturation at a pH of ~ 12.5. You are best off reading the article that Creeper posted then come back for any questions.

As far as what your question seems to be that can not be calculate without tank parameters and what you are trying to do.

make any amount of RO water (1,3 or 5 gals or whatever), mix in kalk until it all disolves into the water. when the the powder cant disolve into the water anymore and precipitates down, the water is considered saturated. this water can go into your sump as topoff water. the kalk will raise your pH n maintain Calcium levels. check Ca n Alk a day or two after.

i hope this can help.

Ok I read the 18 pages of info from that web site, still confused as to how much to start with.

You can NOT add this stuff until you know how much calcium and Alk your tank uses. Meaning you must know how much to add.

Lets pretent that 225 gal is actually 250 gals of water. You need to estimate how much water you have not the volume of the tanks and sump.

So, you test for Calcium and it is 420 ppm and you want it at 425 ppm. You would drip into the tank over 24 hrs 1.5 gals of satuated Kalk. You also have to measure your Alk and pH daily so you can see what their daily demand is just like the Calcium. You do not want the pH or Alk getting to high. Kalk raises the pH very easily.

Kalk is for daily Calcium usage it IS NOT for raising the calcium. Meaning, if the tank is at 400 ppm Calcium and you want it a 425ppm that is a big NO-NO.

Kalk has two ueses.

1. As a Calcium and Alk sup. Many tanks can not use this as a single sup.

2. To raise the pH due to high CO2, which keeps the pH lower than wanted.
