What kind of lighting do I need in order to keep grues out of my tank? Is it a matter of sheer candlepower or do I need to look at the Kelvins of the light source? Also, does actinic lighting do any good at all, or does it actually encourage grue propogation?

Generally, actinics or even a few watts of LED moonlights is sufficient to keep grues out of the typical reef tank. However, blacklights seem to actually encourage their population, so those should be avoided.

Years ago I heard of a guy who tried keeping a tank full of grues lit with a red light only, on the theory that they wouldn't be bothered by the red spectrum and so he could observe their natural habits. Unfortunately he seems to have stopped posting online, so I don't know the results of his effort.

Thanks. I'll use some SeaChem Garlic Guard.

You were late for our meeting outside the Kremlin.

Charisma deducted.
