I have a 40 gal. breed with some leather corals. Recently I bought a frag of blue tip accopora. I have only supplemented the tank with B Ionic. I have read that these corals do good with iodide supplementation. Any wisdom in supplementation??

The general consensus is Bionic (kalkwasser or CA reactor), water changes and food should provide all the necessary elements needed for good coral growth.

If you do regular water change, I2 dosing is not necessary. Unless you have I2 demanding corals such as mushroom or tankfull of macro algae which absorbes significant quantity of I2 as it grows.

There is no kit for Iodine, that is why most people are reluctant to add it. Just be carefull not to over do it. Remember that the ocean is not naturally high in anything. Adding stuff to the tank is like fertalizing a plant, easy to add too much. HTH.

I think in keeping sps corals that the less is more theory is best as far as I'm concerned. I drip kalk. 24/7 test for ca. and alk. as needed and boost only if needed. I feed the tank 2 x weekly and that is all I do for my 2 sps/clam tanks. I think IMO you get into adding too much stuff when you don't need to if you do regular water changes. HTH...

Thanks again. I was just at a sight ready to buy I2 just before I read Sues input on less is more. I then took a look at her tanks at her sight and was blown away. Great looking corals. I was thinking about a kalk drip for my tank. Dose any body know of a good DYS dosser.

4Angel, Thank you very much, the kind words are definitely appreciated. I use 2 old salt buckets to drip my kalk. I have one upside down and the second bucket right side up and taped together. I have my drip line drilled into the top bucket and the line then goes into my mud bed sump. A Kent float is used to allow the kalk to drip as needed. Thanks again.
